Businesses now ask whether a website is ready for both Google and AI-powered search. The useful answer is not a special trick or a separate layer of keyword stuffing. It is a website that can be crawled, understood, trusted and used easily by real people.
Google explains that the same foundational SEO practices remain relevant to AI Overviews and AI Mode, with no additional technical requirements or special schema required. OpenAI separately provides OAI-SearchBot controls for sites that want to be eligible for ChatGPT search results.
Seven foundations for SEO and AI search visibility
1. Make important information crawlable
Core service descriptions, locations, answers and contact information should exist as real HTML text. Do not hide the only useful explanation inside an image, video or JavaScript interaction that a crawler may not process correctly.
2. Give every page one clear purpose
A page should answer a recognisable need such as corporate website design, logo development or printing preparation. Use a descriptive title, one main heading, useful subheadings and a concise meta description. Clear URLs such as /portfolio/website-design/1 are easier to understand than random identifiers.
3. Write specific, experience-based content
Describe what you provide, who it is for, how the process works, what decisions matter and what limitations apply. Original examples, real portfolio work and practical explanations give both people and machines more context than generic marketing claims.
4. Connect related pages
Internal links help visitors continue from a service to relevant work, answers and contact options. They also help crawlers discover pages and understand topic relationships. Use link text that says what the destination contains.
5. Use accurate structured data
Schema.org markup can state that a page represents a LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ, BlogPosting or CreativeWork. It must match the visible content. Structured data supports understanding and eligibility for certain search features, but it does not guarantee a ranking or AI citation.
6. Make mobile experience a priority
Text should remain readable, buttons easy to tap, images correctly sized and navigation simple on a phone. Large hero videos need a compressed file, poster image and motion-reduction fallback so design does not damage usability.
7. Keep business facts consistent
Use the same company name, services, location, telephone number and social profiles across the website and trusted business listings. Clear facts reduce ambiguity about the organisation behind the content.
What does AI SEO not mean?
It does not mean creating hundreds of thin pages, repeating a phrase unnaturally or adding invented testimonials. It also does not mean that an llms.txt file alone creates visibility. Useful content, technical access and real authority remain the work that matters.
A practical launch checklist
- Unique title and meta description for each important page.
- Canonical URLs, a valid robots.txt file and an XML sitemap.
- Descriptive image alt text and optimised image dimensions.
- LocalBusiness, WebSite, BlogPosting and portfolio schema where relevant.
- Google Search Console and analytics configured after launch.
- OAI-SearchBot allowed when appearing in ChatGPT search is desired.
